Weekend Prayers and Links

Okay, so how long have you gone without power in your home? This past weekend we were without power from Friday till Sunday because of a snow/ice storm! Now, I don’t even like snow. My motto is “the hotter, the better”. So when ice takes my heater, I’m not happy.

I tried to keep reminding myself that no electricity is a first-world problem. I remember when I went on a mission trip to Africa a few years ago they shared that power and water outages for days are common during the wet season. The full-time missionaries living there would have to get up in the middle of the night to wash their clothes and do other housework. Clearly one weekend without power is nothing to complain about. Right?

Weekend Prayers and Links for Single Women

Well, I made it until Saturday. Then the novelty wore off. We ate a gas station breakfast, because all the restaurants were without power too, and my toes were freezing. I was over it. Then I realized that our hot water heater does not run on electricity. Do you know what that means? We had plenty of hot water! If I had known I would have been soaking in a hot bath much sooner.

But isn’t that how it usually is when our circumstances overwhelm our thoughts? We get so consumed with what’s wrong that we don’t even see what’s right in front of us that’s good.

This weekend I want you to do this. I want you to make a list from Friday until Sunday of everything good in your life. Every time you think of something you hate or resent or want to change, try to immediately think of a blessing and write it down. By Sunday how many blessings do you think you’ll have written? I’d love for you to share with me either in the comments below or on Facebook or Twitter!

A Lot of Prayer

This is the verse I’m praying over you this weekend. I know you’ve probably read it so much you just skim right through it by now, but until it becomes a part of your being you don’t know it well enough. I want you to pay real close attention to the last sentence. You can’t be content on your own. There’s no way. This life is too hard. There’s too many problems. But thank God for grace! He gives it abundantly, and He gives you the strength to be content.
