It’s no secret that all I ever wanted to do was be a wife and mother. I mean, so much that when my mom asked me at five-years-old what I wanted to be when I grew up, I told her “a mommy.” That never changed.
It took me a long time to get there, though. I did not get married right after college. And I did not have babies in my twenties. I was single for a long time. However, now I see a glimpse of why. Of course, I do not know God’s exact thoughts, nor will I ever until I see Him face-to-face, but I see that God was preparing me during my singleness for something He wants me to do now. That is write and mentor all of you – my readers who are single (and the ones who may want to mentor singles or disciple their daughters well).
What was unexpected is that all of this was taking place around the same time I had my first baby – a baby girl. I always thought that once I had a baby nothing else would matter. I’d be completely content. I thought motherhood would bring me everything. My dream would have come true, right? What else would there be for me to want?
Well, I was wrong. I love, and I mean LOVE, being a mom, and evenly most especially a mom to a girl. I miss her when she’s sleeping I love her that much. But . . .
I still have these passions. They’re new passions, but they’re real and I know they’re from God. So what do I do with them?
I’m so honored to be sharing my answer to this question in an article at iBelieve.com called “How to Find Peace When Motherhood and Your Passions Compete.”
If you’re wondering why this matters to you as a single woman, I hope to show you real life “on the other side” so that you will be prepared. My advice to you is to really evaluate your God-given passions now and begin pursuing them with all of yourself. Then, when your time comes to be a mom, you will be well established, you will know yourself, and you will be prepared for the next season.
I’d love to know your thoughts, too. Please leave me a comment. Did you think you’d have everything when you became a mom?
