For thirteen years I was a school teacher, so my year was not marked by January 1st through December 31st. Instead, my year started in August and continued through until the next August. It seemed like when I became a teacher my life started going by faster. I don’t know if continuing to mark my adult years in school years, each with its own chapter, sped it up or just simply that I was getting older, but life certainly hit the accelerator. Before I knew it I was 30. I wasn’t married, and I couldn’t believe it. How could my twenties have gone by so fast? Now I’m 38, and I’m no longer a school teacher. But life isn’t getting any slower. If anything its accelerator pedal is hitting the floor.

I think back to those years in my twenties as a young teacher, and I wish I had then the perspective I have now. I had all the time in the world and didn’t know it. I know it’s irritating when single people hear married people say, “You have the gift of time.” And I don’t want to irritate you. But I do want to give you perspective because you do have the gift of time. 

What are you doing with the time you have?

Because I promise you never again in your life will you have it like you have it now. This weekend think about that. It’s no use in denying it or wishing it weren’t true. It simply is true. So instead of resenting it, embrace it. Ask God, “What do you want me to do with this gift of time you’ve given me?” He’s always looking for faithful workers. He’ll assuredly answer you.

A Lot of Prayer

We all need wisdom with how to spend the gift of time God has given us. Yes, single friends, you may have a special gift of more uninterrupted time right now, but we all have the gift of time just from having our very next breath.
