We’re getting ready for a yard sale, so I’ve been cleaning out the garage. I opened a bag stuffed on a shelf. There were about six old cell phones inside, including this one. As I shared on Instagram, if you’re younger than 29 you need to know this weighs about two pounds. My toddler girl didn’t mind though. When I walked in with six old cell phones for her to play with, she immediately found someone to “call” on each one. She’s already a little obsessed with the phone.
As I looked at this phone, though, I saw more than a toy. I saw my past, and I started to miss it.

You never realize the good ol’ days are good until they’re old. For someone who lives in the future more than the present, this makes me mourn time I missed because I wasn’t present in the now.
One thing I sometimes miss is being single.
I can feel single women all across the internet gasping and hating me and thinking I sound like an ungrateful brat. I guess it’s easy to miss something when you’re not actually living it anymore. That’s true. But I tell you this to make a point.
The grass is only greener when you’re on the side that’s crunchy. It’s never really that green once you cross over to it.
That doesn’t mean it’s not good on the other side. It’s just not as green as you think it is.
In my ideal world, of course, I’d be married with a few days of singleness sprinkled in now and again. Days where I didn’t have to answer to anyone. Where there was more silence. And I could just sit and think and be.
A Lot of Prayer
God does not want us to live in the future, imagining what might be, what we hope to be. No, instead He’s given us this day, this very day that we’re living and breathing right now, and He’s filled it with divine moments. Each one of our days are made of moments. A moment may be a minute long. A moment may be hours long. But each moment is divine. It’s given to you for a reason.
Don’t trade in your divine moments for moments that are to come. Because trust me – you will miss these days.
This weekend let’s pray that we don’t miss the divine moments God has given us by living in the future. Instead, let’s ask God to open our eyes to what He has for us to accomplish.

This weekend I am praying for you. Please leave your requests in the comments or on the Facebook page.
And a Little Encouragement
One detail from my past that you may not know about is that I suffered from an eating disorder in my twenties. By the grace of God, it was not as severe as Emily T. Wierenga‘s; however, it was there. So I share this post with you in case some of you are struggling too.

This is a sermon series going on right now by Andy Stanley. I’ve probably mentioned that Andy is one of my favorite pastors to listen to (and his was my home church back in Atlanta). Anyway, it’s about suffering and “in the meantime” moments. It goes along with my post today, so please take a listen.

Okay, so I’ve never mentioned this before, but I do not and will not use the birth control pill. Maybe I’ll write more about that decision one day because I think young women are lied to that there are no other options. And I think that Protestants have completely missed the boat when it comes to the birth control pill and the sanctity of life. But that’s another topic. So here’s a post that got my attention.
