Do You Feel Entitled to a Boyfriend?

I know I’ve thought it.

“I deserve a man. I’m following God. I’m living my life for Him. Doesn’t that mean I deserve a boyfriend?”

But God doesn’t work that way.

We actually deserve nothing. Nada. Yet, we still feel entitled. We believe we should get our way and when we don’t, we get angry and doubt God’s love.

Do You Feel Entitled to a Boyfriend?

We start thinking these thoughts:

God is angry at me.
Did I do something wrong?
Where is God?
Does God even care about me?
God doesn’t love me.

We think we deserve a boyfriend and then when Prince Charming is MIA we question God and his plan and purpose for our lives. We think if God gave us a man, maybe we would better understand his love. And maybe then, we would fully believe that God is good and that he loves us.

If you had a man, would you think God was good? Would you think God loved you more? Sometimes we spend so much time thinking about what we don’t have, that we stop thinking about what we do have. We stop pursuing Jesus because we spend forever pursuing a man.

When we get into this mindset, we also start to sin. We sin every time we doubt God and his plan. We sin every time we think God made a mistake with our lives.

A similar story occurs in the book of John. Thomas, Philip, and a few others began doubting Jesus. They questions his plans and that he is God. Read the story below:

“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”

Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.” Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else believe on account of the works themselves.” – John 14:6-11 (ESV).

Three words in this passage greatly touched my heart – it is enough. Have you ever told God that if He just did one thing for you, it would be enough? Maybe if you had a man, it would be enough for you to believe that God loves you and has a perfect plan for you life?

Friends, I’ve had all those thoughts. I’ve laid in bed all night and begged God to give me a man so I could really experience God’s love.

This way of thinking is causing us to miss out on real love. Perfect love. Our one true love. Did you know that God tells says, “I love you” to us in the Bible? (Click here to read more.)

God created us with a huge need, a need to be loved, and only are we complete though him. (Colossians 2:10).

Do you feel entitled to have a man? Do you think you deserve a man?

You and I both need changed hearts. We need to fully experience God’s love. If we truly knew the unfailing love of God, we would not be searching anywhere else or doubting God’s plan for our lives.
