  • WE GOT A HEART!::Day 18

JOHN GOT A HEART AND HE’S IN SURGERY!!!

This is a huge answer to prayer and blessing! We prayed for this weekend – as soon as he could receive a heart! Also, our families are here and John’s friends are coming up tonight. That was already planned! God knew the perfect timing!

John needs HUGE prayer right now!! Please continue to pray! The surgery will take 5-8 hours.

    Please pray for:

    1. Wisdom for the surgeons, doctors, and nurses. Pray that Jesus is guiding their every move.
    2. There are no complications to John’s surgery. That everything goes smoothly. That he does not have a stroke or excess bleeding.
    3. John wakes up after surgery.
    4. John comes out of the sedation well and that he has no damage to his other organs or his neurological system.
    5. John’s recovery is fast and smooth. That there are no more complications there.
    6. God continues to be glorified throughout this process.
    7. That we never take this gift for granted and that John and I will continue on with our lives for many years serving God.

*** And an extra special prayer for John’s heart donor’s family. They are grieving right now and need to be lifted up in prayer that God will give them comfort, peace, and love during this difficult time. That they know how very appreciative we are for their donation.

  • Is This the Heart God Chose? – Day 18

BIG NEWS with a lot of prayers needed!!!

John potentially has a heart. The doctor is going soon to examine it and see if it is perfect for John. We will find out soon if it is John’s heart and if he’ll be going for transplant.

However, John needs a lot of prayers right now. He is very stable and doing very well. His labs are great, and everything looks good. But he is not responding to commands even though he’s off of the sedation, and the doctors are concerned about taking him into surgery without him following commands. There is a possibility that John has experienced some neurological damage (stroke, blood clot, etc.). John is moving his legs, feet, and arms. This may just be that he has been sedated for so long with so much medication that it is going to just take him longer to come out of it.

We need intense prayer right now for these things:

    1. John responds to commands before going into surgery.
    2. That he does not have any neurological problems.
    3. If he does have a neurological problem, God miraculously heals him before he goes into surgery.
    4. Wisdom for the doctor who is going to look at the heart. That he chooses the perfect heart for John – the one God chose first.
    5. John’s new heart is strong, healthy, and perfect for him.
    6. There are no complications during his transplant. Wisdom for the doctors during transplant.
    7. John wakes up from transplant, and that he recovers quickly with no complications.
    8. For John’s heart donor’s family right now in their time of grief. That God will give them comfort, love, peace, and hope.
    9. That we look to God throughout this process for guidance and hope. That we remember that He is in control. That He is continually glorified.

I will let you know soon if this heart is the one for John, and if he’s headed for transplant. Please continue to pray diligently for the next several days.

  • Mighty to Save

John’s favorite Christian song is “Mighty to Save”. This morning I am going to play it for him.

Right now this is not only a song that we love to listen to, but it’s our prayer to God to save John’s life. I am asking God today, despite my sin and shortcomings, to have mercy on me and John, to move the mountain, and to save John’s life. This is not at all because I deserve it. I do not. I am asking God out of His pure love and grace.

    Our Prayer:

    “Mighty to Save”

    Everyone needs compassion,
    Love that’s never failing;
    Let mercy fall on me.

    Everyone needs forgiveness,
    The kindness of a Saviour;
    The Hope of nations.

Saviour, He can move the mountains,
My God is Mighty to save,
    He is Mighty to save.

    Forever, Author of salvation,
He rose and conquered the grave,
    Jesus conquered the grave.

So take me as You find me,
    All my fears and failures,
    Fill my life again.

I give my life to follow
    Everything I believe in,
    Now I surrender.

My Saviour, He can move the mountains,
My God is Mighty to save,
    He is Mighty to save.
    Forever, Author of salvation,
He rose and conquered the grave,
    Jesus conquered the grave.

Shine your light and let the whole world see,
We’re singing for the glory of the risen King…Jesus (x2)

My Saviour, He can move the mountains,
My God is Mighty to save,
    He is Mighty to save.
    Forever, Author of salvation,
He rose and conquered the grave,
    Jesus conquered the grave.

My Saviour, you can move the mountains,
    You are mighty to save,
    You are mighty to save.
    Forever, Author of Salvation,
You rose and conquered the grave,
    Yes you conquered the grave

  • The Blessing of Victory::Day 17

Every victory is a blessing, and today was a victory!

John has been stable all day! His blood pressure is good, his organs are happy, his kidneys are happier than they were yesterday, and he has no fever.

They tried to bring John out of sedation a little today. We know that John does not come out of sedation well from experience of another hospital stay years ago and from being sedated a few days ago. He comes out aggressive, which can be dangerous with all of the equipment he is using. He isn’t aggressive out of defiance. He just doesn’t like the breathing tube – it’s very uncomfortable – and he doesn’t understand what is going on.

When he woke up a little he moved his hands and feet, he moved his head, and he bended his legs a little. He responded to pain which is good. However, he hasn’t obeyed commands yet – like “squeeze my hand” or “nod your head”. They tried to lessen the sedation a little more to get him to do these things, but he got a little more rambunctious, so they just let him be. He has been on a lot of sedation medication, though, and he’s still sick from the infection, so we know he doesn’t feel well. We’ll keep trying for responses from him tomorrow.

They are taking blood every day and seeing if it grows bacteria over a three day period. If after three days no bacteria has grown, then they are pretty sure his infection is gone. His white blood count is still high, and he is on a lot of antibiotics. He will be on these for at least five days.

John does have a staph infection (Which last time I spelled “staff”. Shows what I know!) However, it’s not the hospital kind. You all probably know more about that than I do, and the doctor explained it to me today – I just forget so much now-a-days – but basically it’s the treatable one that is better for John to recover from.

Our hope is that John recovers from this infection in the next few days, while remaining stable, and that a heart becomes available this weekend or beginning of next week. Every day seems like an eternity right now.

Again, thank you so very, very much for all of your prayers!! John feels them, and I know he appreciates them so much. I cannot wait to see the look on his face when he reads and hears about all of this.

God is answering our prayers, performing miracles daily, and providing for us physically and emotionally. However, please do not give up on praying for John daily without ceasing when we have “good” days like today because he is a long way from recovery. This is a long road, and he will need intense prayer for a long time.

Our prayer requests are very similar to yesterday’s.

    1. John stays stable with the ECMO in ICU.
    2. John’s infection goes away very quickly – within the next 2-3 days.
    3. John’s new heart comes as quickly as he can accept it.
    4. There are not any adverse affects or damage to John’s body and organs due to his treatment.
    5. Wisdom for John’s doctors, surgeons, and nurses.
    6. John’s heart transplant goes smoothly without any complications. His body does not reject his new heart.
    7. John recovers smoothly and quickly.
    8. God gives us strength and understanding in every step of this process.
    9. God continues to be glorified in it all. That our lives and other people’s lives will be changed from being a part of and hearing John’s story. People will receive the gift of salvation and eternal life in Heaven by coming to Jesus.
**10. This one should be at the top. That John is peaceful and comfortable in the ICU. That he feels the comfort of the Holy Spirit and the love that surrounds him. That he knows he is loved. That he is not anxious.
    11. That I will live right now though God’s strength in me because there is nothing more in my humanness to contribute. That God will sustain me physically and emotionally.
    12. That John’s weak heart will sustain him until his new heart comes.

Also, please pray for John’s organ donor. Please pray for his salvation and relationship to Jesus. Please pray for God’s comfort, love, and peace to surround his family.

  • Absolute Faith

“Then Jesus said to the disciples, “Have faith in God. I tell you the truth, you can say to this mountain, ‘May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and it will happen. But you must really believe it will happen and have no doubt in your heart. I tell you, you can pray for anything, and if you believe that you’ve received it, it will be yours. But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so the your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too”. (Mark 11:22-26)

Please pray for John today with absolute faith without any doubt in your heart.

I did not receive any phone calls during the night which is a blessing, and when I checked in with the nurse at around 11:00 John was stable – another blessing.

Please pray today that 1. John remains stable 2. His infection goes away. and 3. The big one: A heart comes this weekend. Please pray as Jesus tells us to above and our prayers will be answered

  • Today’s Desperate Prayer Requests

I’ve begged for prayer in the past, but now I am more desperate than I ever have been or thought I could be. I will do anything to have thousands of people praying for John. He is my life, and I need him.

I know so many of you are praying for him, and I humbly ask you to please not stop. Please ask everyone you know to do the same. Today’s surgery is just one example that God hears our prayers. Also, even if you don’t know John or myself, if you feel comfortable, please leave him messages on here for when he wakes up. I can’t wait to share with him the love that surrounds him and God’s relentless mercy and grace.

These are our urgent and specific prayer requests right now. We still praise God for all of His constant provision and love for us. He has blessed us immensely and continues to do so. We know that He loves us more than we can imagine.

    1. John stays stable with the ECMO in ICU.
    2. John’s infection goes away very quickly – within the next 2-3 days.
