  • Strategies to Help You Overcome the Comparison Game

I grew up in a family that loved to play board games together. Every year we would all anticipate a new board game under the Christmas tree. The times of playing together as a family were always fun. There was sure to be laughter in learning the rules of a new game and excitement in playing it. My mother almost always won.

However, there is one particular game I learned to play as a very young girl. It is one I continue to play today. It isn’t enjoyable. It isn’t exciting. And I never win. No one wins at this game.

    Welcome to ‘The Comparison Game”.

  • Creating Time with Jesus for Single Moms

“Just give me ten minutes please,” I said in an elevated voice to my two children as one called out “MOOMMMYYYY” and then the other. It was 8:00 a.m. on a Saturday morning. How can they be bickering already? I thought to myself.

  • Are You Engaging in Messy, Holy Love?

I have a confession to make. I’ve been waiting for my happily ever after, story book ending since I was in the 7th grade. What I loved about romance novels was there was always a beginning, middle, and end. No matter what obstacles were thrown in the protagonists’ paths, they would always end up together and in love.

  • Where Do You Take Your Heartache?

I entered this past week with a heavy heart. It is not often that I feel so weighed down and full of sorrow. As I went to bed on Sunday night I wanted to weep and release the pain and confusion that was swirling around my body. My heart was aching, and I felt torn into a few pieces. No, I hadn’t experienced a relationship break-up. But I was feeling deep sorrow for a couple of people close to my heart as I continued to watch the choices they were making.

  • Lift Your Eyes

Do you ever feel hopeless and defeated?  Like you’re in the middle of a battle, blindly throwing punches into the darkness at some unknown enemy?  If you are a child of the King, you are in a fight…in a war, in fact.  Because of your relationship with God, you have a fierce opponent who is throwing all he’s got at you, wearing you down.  Satan wants your spirit to be stone-cold dead.

Sisters in Christ, don’t let that happen!  As much as we would really prefer to be pampered princesses in a crystal palace, God is calling His daughters to be warriors.

  • On Suffering, Surrendering Idols, and Dying Well

Tonight I read this post by Ann Voskamp about the death of Kara Tippetts. Honestly, I have not followed Kara’s story. However, Ann’s words are quite possibly the most powerful I’ve ever read.

Of course I read this post after coming upstairs from dinner where I got my feelings hurt because of a comment John made about soggy broccoli. There’s nothing like being brought into eternity after wallowing in something as earthly as hurt feelings over broccoli.
